SHIITAKE MUSHROOM CULTIVATION LOG

EASY TO USE:

This log should be kept at a temperature between 14°C and 18°C and needs lighting between 800 and 1000 lux. The relative humidity should be kept at 85%. Although the trunk can produce mushrooms all year round, the best production periods are from April to November, except if temperatures are extreme or humidity is very low.

SELF-CULTIVATION

With this trunk previously inoculated with mycelium in pellets, incubated and ready for the production of delicious Shiitake mushrooms, you can enjoy at home a really simple, fun and sustainable experience, because the Shiitake-producing trunks only have to be submerged in water for 24 hours. After 1 or 2 weeks, the mushrooms will start to come out. They will take a week to develop, and after harvesting them, you only have to let the trunk rest for two to three months to submerge it again and stimulate a new bloom. In this way we will be able to have between 3 and 4 mushroom blooms per year, up to 4 years in a row.

Your trunk producer comes with a sheet where we explain step by step the basic instructions. But if you still have doubts about how to deal with the trunk, take a look at the frequently asked questions, you will surely find the answers to your doubts here... If not, you can always write to us at info@lacasadelassetas.com.

➡️Whereis the best place to keep the trunk in the best conditions?

The best place will be a humid and shady place, without direct sunlight or air currents. It is also not advisable to keep it in a completely dark place, as the fungus needs some light to emerge. It is best to keep it outdoors, since the humidity of the night, together with the contact of the soil and the rains will be the best to keep it humid. If you have it indoors, you must remember to keep it on a tray or dish with several fingers of water and submerge it completely every 2-3 months.

➡️Whatcare should I maintain if I leave my trunk outside?

The open air is the perfect place to keep the trunk moist, but you must be careful with mollusks, such as slugs and snails that live in the fields, which can damage the mushrooms when they start to emerge. As soon as it starts to produce, place it on a plate or tray with a couple of centimeters of water to prevent these critters from climbing up the trunk, or you can surround it with some natural repellent such as ash, salt, eggshells, etc.

➡️Whatif after submerging the log, as the instructions say, the Shiitake mushrooms do not come out?

You should not worry, many times it can take up to 10 or 15 days for the mushrooms to appear. This largely depends on the temperature, humidity, etc. It is also very likely that the mushroom is not ready to come out yet, and it could even take up to 16 months to mature from the time the inoculation was done! Be patient, wait a few weeks and try again. Try to keep it moist for a few more days after removing it from the water. To do this, keep it in the plastic bag for 3 or 4 days and then in a dish or tray with water until you harvest the mushrooms.

*Here's a tip: if after soaking the log for 24 hours, you put it in the plastic bag and leave it in the refrigerator for another day, you will make the fungus think that autumn is coming and that it has to start producing mushrooms.

➡️Ellog has not produced more than one or two mushrooms, what do I do?

The first time the trunk blooms it almost always does so in a reduced way, let it rest for a couple of months and then do the same process again, you will see how the following blooms will be even bigger.

White mold has appeared on the bark of the trunk, what is it?

If the humidity on the bark of the trunk is high, it is quite normal that the mycelium of the shiitake mushroom grows on it. Do not worry, it is not bad and does not need to be removed.

➡️Trasrepeat the process, no mushroom has come out! ????

It is common for the mushroom to sometimes take longer breaks, especially when it is two years old or older. This does not mean that you should stop taking care of it, always keep it in good humidity conditions and it will produce again at some point. As long as you continue to take care of it, this trunk can continue to produce mushrooms for 2 to 4 years depending on its thickness. But just like us, it needs to be well cared for, especially when it is old.

➡️Siis it very cold or hot, will it be dangerous for my trunk?

In the case of cold, the only thing the fungus will do is to stop producing during the months when temperatures are lower. And the heat will only damage it when the temperature exceeds 30º. What you should do in this case is to look for a cool place to place your trunk.

➡️YaI see mushrooms growing When is it best to pick them and how?

Congratulations, you are about to enjoy the delicious shiitake mushroom, but do not be in a hurry, it is best to wait to collect them when their cap is almost completely open, but not completely, it should maintain a convex shape.

To pick them, cut the mushroom at the base next to the bark of the trunk with the help of a knife and ready, you can enjoy your harvest.
