Remove the box’s seal, take off the lid, and set it aside for later flushes. Our cakes don’t require soaking for the first flush.
Open the casing bag and evenly spread it on the cake’s surface with a clean spoon. This layer helps retain moisture, promoting primordia formation.
Spray water onto the greenhouse bag walls using mineral water, then zip it halfway (half open, half closed) for passive airflow. Monitor initial moisture on the spread casing and maintain it throughout. If it dries too much, close the zipper more; if it becomes too damp, open it further. (We recommend pouring a finger’s width of mineral water inside the bag.)
 

Keep the bag’s humidity high, misting the walls once or twice daily if needed.

 

Once primordia form, open the zipper to about two-thirds. This is approximate, depending on your home’s conditions (climate, time of year). Vent twice a day for 10 minutes by fully opening the bag, then mist the walls.

 

The best time to harvest is about 5 or 6 hours after the veil tears. Grasp the base of the mushroom, gently twist, and pull slightly to avoid damaging the surface, which could delay future flushes.

 

After harvesting the mushrooms, remove the cake from the bag and rinse it under running water until completely filled. Close it with the lid and let it soak for 20 minutes at room temperature (never in the fridge). After soaking, drain the water, return the kit to the bag, and repeat all the steps for subsequent flushes.

How to Maintain Surface Moisture (IMPORTANT)

For a successful grow, avoid spraying the surface of the cake directly, unless it’s obviously drying out. Too much water can negatively affect mushroom development.

To decide whether you need to mist, shine your phone’s flashlight on the cake’s surface. If you see tiny droplets, the moisture is sufficient, so there’s no need for more water. Only mist if the surface is completely dry, and do so sparingly.

Excessive misting is harmful. Never mist more than once a day, as excess moisture can be detrimental to growth. Following these guidelines will ensure the ideal balance for your mushroom development.

How to Spray the Mushroom Cake

To spray the cake properly, avoid saturating it with water. We suggest removing it from the bag and misting from at least one meter away so the droplets fall gently, imitating the effect of light autumn fog, without directly spraying the surface. About six seconds is enough.

After misting, use your phone’s flashlight to confirm a fine layer of tiny, diffuse droplets. Over time, you’ll learn to assess whether the surface needs more or less moisture, as it’s not an exact science.

Along with proper humidity, passive fresh air exchange is crucial. If the bag’s humidity is too high, open the zipper a bit more to boost ventilation. Mushrooms require oxygen, but also need appropriate humidity levels for optimal growth.
