Gloves
Mountain gloves and mittens. Protection and warmth
Mountain gloves or mittens are another important item of clothing when we go out to look for mushrooms or to walk in the mountains. In addition to protecting us from the cold in the mountain early in the morning, gloves or mittens also protect our hands when moving branches, pine needles, thorns, ... It is common to get home with very damaged hands due to the thorns, brambles, branches and other elements of the undergrowth, especially if we are collecting mushrooms or trumpet of the dead!
Especially for the colder seasons, mittens or gloves become essential if we practice outdoor activities such as hiking, trekking, skiing or mycology. If we practice any outdoor activity and keep warm the experience will be much better and fun.
Depending on the activity you are going to develop you will need classic gloves with closed fingers or mitten gloves. It depends on whether you are going to use your fingers to, for example, collect chanterelles or use a GPS or compass. In extreme temperatures, gloves are still a good choice.
You can find different models of gloves for mountaineering. Our recommendation, thinsulate fabric gloves to ensure hand temperature and warmth. Choose between full gloves, gloves with cut fingers to have more touch when handling basket and knife or the most used for looking for mushrooms, the mitten gloves, which allow you to remove the tip of the mitten while collecting and when you have finished picking mushrooms you put it back on.
There are outdoor gloves made of other materials such as rubber, or mixed gloves that use a more resistant material in the grip area. In any case, using gloves when we go out in the mountains is a good decision. They are an important item in our mycological equipment and we should always carry a pair of them in our backpack
If you are thinking of buying mushroom foraging equipment or making a mushroom gift, a pair of outdoor gloves is one of the most useful items you can give to a mushroom and mycology enthusiast
