Cork oak (Quercus suber) mycorrhizal and producer of Boletus (Boletus edulis )

Climate and altitude

  • It lives in siliceous soils, without lime, with preference for climates softened by the influence of the sea, a little humid and without strong frosts, normally at altitudes not exceeding 1 000 m
  • It requires an average annual rainfall of more than 400 mm, of which at least 100 mm is needed in summer (it can receive them partially by horizontal precipitation of fog and dew,
  • The best stands are on gentle sunny slopes, protected from cold north winds and with rainfall between 600 and 1 000 mm
  • The locations with lower rainfall coincide with shady and bottomlands (with the limitation of cold) and areas with more precipitation allow it to access the highest situations

Light

  • Medium-light species, requires some initial protection to demand a lot of light at maturity
